Britney Mercado
About Me:
Hi everyone! My name is Britney Mercado, and I am a fourth-year majoring in Biology. I have a passion for aiding others in their future healthcare and stem endeavors. As the first in my family to go into STEM, I understand the challenges and fear one may face when entering this career path by themselves. As a result of this, I am a member of Mini Medical School and part of the Hypertension Group which aims to share medical health related education to underserved communities, such as the Inland Empire through presentations. In addition to being a member, I am also a licensed Certified Nurse Assistant who has one year of experience working in a nursing home and has dealt with various people and witnessed many diseases. I have also mentored incoming first years through the Peer Mentor Collective Program. Additionally, I am honored to be a continuing Science Ambassador this academic year. After I graduate this June, I plan to apply to a Master's in Nursing Program this Fall to continue my journey of helping others and ultimately become a Nurse Practitioner. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me!
Goals and Aspirations:
Although my undergraduate years are coming to an end this June, I am extremely ecstatic to move forward with my future aspirations while applying my attained undergraduate skills. After I graduate, I plan to gain a summer internship, gain experience working in a hospital, travel , and take a self defense class. I hope to gain my Masters in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Ultimately, my goal is to finish school as rapid as I can to start my dream of becoming a nurse and aid underserved communities in need.
Extracurriculars:
Mini Medical School Member: I am apart of the Hypertension group, and our main goal is to compile information onto infographics, powerpoint presentations, and poster boards to present vital medical information to underserved inland communities.
Licensed Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA): Being a CNA entails you to care for eight to twelve patients under a registered nurse and introduces you to multitudes of diseases as well as a variety of people with different personalities in the healthcare system.
