Patricia B. Sanchez
About Me:
Hi there everyone! My name is Patty and I'm a 4th year biology major here in CNAS.
I conduct research in ant behavior in the entomology department with the Wilson Rankin Lab. These days you can find me on my way to do field work, studying in the library, or working out at the Student Rec Center.
Goals and Aspirations:
- Publish a paper on my research in Summer 2023
- Finish my needle pointed tote bag
- Get an internship to explore careers in industry
Extracurriculars:
CNAS Science Ambassador Project Liaison: As an ambassador, I represent the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences here at UC Riverside. I participate on students panels, give campus tours to students and families, and do volunteer in the Riverside community. As a liaison, I communicate about the progress my project has made, new developments, and contribute to our monthly leadership meeting with Dean Nugent, the Ambassador presidents, and fellow project liaisons.
Little EINSTEINs Resource Management Chair: The Little EINSTEINs project brings fun, hands on science lessons to elementary school classrooms in Riverside Unified School District. We teach topics like heat exchange and the states of matter while making icecream or how the brain communicates with our body by making neuron models with crafts.
I handle the organization's funds and work on budgeting to make all our lessons possible!
Wilson-Rankin Lab Undergraduate Researcher: Dr. Erin Rankin's lab conducts research on invasive species ecology. My project focuses on a native and invasive species (F. pruinosus and L. humile). I place my specimen into arenas and analyze their aggression and cleaning behavior to see how it may affect their fitness to access resources.
SACNAS Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science: We have monthly meetings where we discuss how to get involved in research!
Catholic Student Fellowship: The organization has been a great way to learn more about my faith and meet caring friends. Students are welcome to attend mass on campus, club meetings at the St. Andrew Newman Center near campus, and attend bible study/catechism discussions.
Medical Scholars Program Member: The medical scholars program is one of many UCR School of Medicine Pipeline programs. It works as a network of students from underrepresented backgrounds who have an interest in medicine and making a difference in the Riverside community. They offer workshops, tutoring, and socials throughout the year for members who are accepted.
