Sonali Bhakta
Vice President of Projects & Events
About Me:
Hello there! My name is Sonali Bhakta and I am a fourth-year biochemistry major, minoring in law and society! I became a CNAS Science Ambassador in my third year of undergrad because I wanted to make a difference and serve my community in a way that I knew would benefit students just like me. I am the Vice President of Projects and Events and the President of the project Change in Scientific Importance for Youth, commonly known as Delta SIFY. This past year I coached the Science Olympiad Crime Busters event at Riverside STEM Academy, an event that tests students' knowledge and skills in forensic science and crime scene investigation. I helped organize and host the first-ever UCR Highlander Invitational, a national track-meet-style competition where over 900 middle and high school students from 50 teams across the country competed in 36 events encompassing various areas of science, such as biology, chemistry, geology, astronomy, and engineering. Additionally, I work for the UCR Office of Technology Partnerships, Industry Partnerships department, where I review scientific contracts from the college.
Goals and Aspirations:
I am driven to make a strong, positive impact in science. With four years of hands-on experience in research labs, I seek to understand the forces shaping science and technology. I am looking for ways to spread scientific knowledge to the world and connect the two in ways that oppose traditional thinking. Science is heavily involved in all aspects of humanity, yet their interactions with science do not immediately come to mind when these topics come up in conversation. This is where my interest in law arrives. law is a fundamental pillar of modern society that is critical to maintaining order, promoting fairness and justice, and protecting the rights and interests of individuals and communities. By being an advocate for science in a legal and political climate, I can propel progress forward.
After graduating I will be attending the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law where I will be pursuing my Master of Science in Law! Post my first year of graduate school, I plan to either work in industry or continue my education at law school.
